How to read a supplement listing before you buy

A practical way to separate ingredient facts, purchase terms and health claims when comparing supplements.

Begin with what you are comparing

Write down the exact product name, formulation and variant. Two bottles can sound similar while containing different ingredient combinations. Compare the Supplement Facts panel and other ingredients before considering marketing language. If the label cannot be read clearly, request the current label rather than filling in the missing information.

Keep the purchasing decision separate from a health decision

FDA explains that supplements are not generally approved by the agency for safety and effectiveness before sale. A store description or customer testimonial cannot establish that a product will treat your condition. Discuss personal suitability with a qualified clinician or pharmacist, particularly when medicines or other supplements are involved. Marketgrid does not choose doses or replace that conversation.

Compare like with like

For a practical shopping comparison, use the same pack size and the serving information shown on each label. A lower bottle price does not automatically represent a lower cost for the quantity you are comparing. Record the label version or date you checked so a later formulation change does not go unnoticed. Do not treat overlapping ingredient names as proof that two formulations have the same effect.

Check the order you will actually place

Confirm whether the checkout is a one-time purchase or subscription. Note the recurring charge, shipment interval and cancellation method if a subscription is selected. For an international order, verify the product and destination together. Save the order terms and contact the retailer about unclear label or delivery information before paying.
